Lung Month: Research beyond the numbers

Ottawa, ON – This Lung Month, The Lung Association encourages all Canadians to take stock of each of their 22,000 daily breaths and acknowledge the donors and researchers who make them possible. This November, The Lung Association is proud to release an unprecedented detailed, multimedia look at 5 years of funding across the country. The Association will release its quinquennial digital national research report, Why Research Matters?  The report looks at the stories behind the $ 11.8 million spent in research.

“It’s time to truly celebrate the researchers who make this a better place to breathe and the donors who make these advances possible,” says Terry Dean, president and CEO of The Lung Association – National.

“We often take breathing for granted, but it doesn’t come easily for all and without continued commitment to lung health research, many Canadians would be left gasping for air.”

The national research report provides Canadians with a unique view of the funded projects that goes beyond the numbers. This November, Canadians will have the opportunity to virtually walk through the labs of our researchers and truly understand the research being funded.

“It’s really quite exciting to listen to a researcher explain how the research you, our donors, have funded can change a baby’s life trajectory; possibly reverse asthma or provide a 3D view of your lungs. This is why lung research matters.”

Furthermore, the research report will provide a great view of the scope of projects being funded, ranging from prevention, to education, to change in the healthcare system.

“We are proud to invest in research that not only looks for cures, but also proper diagnoses, changes in the healthcare system and prevention. Although these pieces may not always get the headlines they should, they are all key areas of research.”
